The GPDRR has successfully completed three Sessions in 2007, 2009 and 2011. The Fourth Session of the Global Platform with theme “Invest today for a safer tomorrow” will be held in Geneva at the International Conference Centre from 19 May to 23 May 2013 aims to continue the energy of the previous Global Platform meetings into a durable and sustained effort from the governments, NGOs and civil society, international agencies and organizations, academic and technical institutions, and the private sector to take shared responsibility in reducing risks and reinforcing resilience in our communities. The goal of GPDRR is to improve performance of disaster risk reduction through better communication and coordination amongst stakeholders. The Global Platform is organized by UNISDR, the UN's office for disaster risk reduction and secretariat of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction. Key outcomes to achieve during the Fourth Session will include a stronger and more sustainable ISDR movement world-wide. Directions and new alliances for the development and use of new tools and methodologies aimed at disaster risk reduction. The forum will have to discuss progress and consult over a post-Hyogo Framework of Action (HFA). There will be events that follow-up and progress on the 2011 Global Platform and priorities and routes reflected in the outcome document of the Chair's Summary. Bangladesh Disaster Preparedness Centre has successfully participated in all the sessions of GPDRR. It is the only NGO in Bangladesh which is accredited by ISDR to participate at Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and make statement at the plenary session. It has also been privileged by the opportunity of moderating a High Level Plenary. As BDPC is the only National NGO in Bangladesh which is accredited by ISDR to participate at GPDRR and make official statement at the Plenary Session, our Director Mr. Muhammad Saidur Rahman is going to make an official statement at the plenary session of the fourth session of GPDRR which is held on 22 May between 9h00 to 13h00. You would have noticed that, as always, BDPC is advocating sustainable disaster risk reduction through empowering the dis-advantaged communities in developing countries for establishment of their rights to survive.
